Waiting. It is something we do daily. hourly. probably by the minute! We wait for the light to turn green. We wait to the car in front of us to realized the light turned green. We wait for a hostess to seat us at a restaurant. We wait for the waiter. We wait to order. We wait for our food. We wait for the holidays. We wait for Christmas. Kids wait to open presents, for their birthday. We wait for the man or woman of our dreams. We wait for the wedding. We wait to get pregnant. We wait 9 months to have the baby. We wait to find a job. We wait to find another job if we have lost a previous job. We wait. ALOT. EVERY. DAY. How do we wait?
If we are honest, alot of the time we do not wait with very much grace or patience, BUT the Bible says we should:
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry – Psalm 40:1
If we are honest as well, alot of life is about waiting. As Christians, we wait. We wait for the Lord’s calling on our life, to show us what to do, where to go, what to be, what to do, where to act, what to say, etc. Once that step is taken, we wait again for the next step. Since so much of our life is spent “waiting” we should wait joyfully. What a waste of breath we would be if we spent the moments waiting with crankiness, anger, complaining, weariness, etc. Our life would end up pretty, hate to say it, crappy. The Bible says never to become weary of doing good. While we wait, we should be serving, seeking, and with joy.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. – Galatians 6:9
I admit, I am not one of the most patient people. There is some commercial out that says “I want it and I want it now” Well, truth be told, that wouldn’t even BE a commercials slogan if that is how the majority of the population felt. We do not like to wait. We want things now. We do not like not knowing what tomorrow brings sometimes. We do not like not knowing what to expect. We want all the answers, but sometimes, we can’t. Sometimes no one can. Your friends can’t give you answers, your spouse, your pastor, not anyone. We just have to wait on the Lord.
Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. – Psalm 27:14
I think we are most always in SOME sort of period of waiting. I heard that song today about waiting on the radio. “While I’m Waiting” by John Waller. That song was a HUGE blessing to me when Holly was in the NICU so long. We didn’t know what would happen. She had a partially collapsed lung, then they kept finding issue after issues. We had to wait. Wait on tests. Wait on results. Wait to bring her home. Wait to see if she would breath ok. Wait. Wait. Wait. This song talks about serving, and trusting, and worshipping the Lord even while you are waiting. THAT is what we need to be doing while we wait.
If we spend the time waiting with impatience and sulking, we will waste precious moments, hours, days, months, sometimes even YEARS of our lives missing out on so many other blessings. What are YOU waiting on today?
Your answer while you are waiting? “Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” 1 Chronicals 16:11
The Bible also says God will NEVER leave us nor forsake us, and this includes periods of waiting…
