For the wives. . .
I have been learning there are MANY MANY MANY books for the husbands and their call to ministry. However, sometimes us ladies going into ministry WITH our husbands need some encouragement as well. I am halfway through a book called “She can’t even play the piano.” It is a compiling of several differant people, ministry wives and pastor’s wives alike, just sharing some stories of fun, happiness, hardships, sadness, etc. . .just to encourage us for the road ahead. I truly desire to be a godly wife for Andrew during this time. Please be praying for me to be the best supporter and encourager I can be. Pray that when Andrew wants to give up, I can push him forward, pray we never want to throw in the towel at the same time. Pray that I can love him even if there are weeks I may not see him alot. Pray that the both of us can use what God is doing in our lives to grow Katie to be a godly woman herself. Ladies, you should check out this book. It isn’t TOO serious, which for me and my baby brain right now is quite nice, but it is just REAL. I like real. Here is a little snipit from it that may encourage you.
“Just what do you do” is an age old burning question for a ministry wife. . .can she satisfy everyone? Frankly, no-she can’t. Even Jesus was disliked by many of the people He encountered.” This was encouraging for me because I have the tendency to be a people-pleaser. I hate when people are mad at me, or I worry I have offended someone at times. This should NOT be the way I live. I need to focus on the calling the Lord has placed in my life and don’t worry what people may be dis-satisfied along the way!
I know as a ministry wife my life will be changing drastically. Along with the arrival of Baby Katie, I am sure there will be many days I want to pull my hair out, which frankly is not a good thing, considering the Lord blessed me with fine/thin hair to begin with
haha. I desire this prayer for my life that Kay Warren shares in this book. “Even of days when Kay Warren mentioned when we don’t have time to shave our legs, our pots and pans have cobwebs on them and our bathtub is being used as a planter, we can still pray ‘Father, since I can’t possibly make everyone happy, I ask You to enable me to establish and sustain priorities that will please You and bring glory to Your name.” So, current ministry wives, future ministry wives, whether your husband is simply in ministry or is the pastor, read this very REAL book of REAL stories by REAL ministry women! God Bless!
Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

I agree that there are not many good books out there! Especially for second career pastors and their wives…..it is quite a transition. I didn’t get to read all your posts, but it sounds like you guys are stepping out for the Lord. May He bless you as you glorify Him!
