David and American Idol

And yes, its back.  American Idol.  Andrew and I have not consistantly watched in in awhile, but we do like these first few weeks because they are so funny!  It is hilarious to me to watch people who sing like a dying cat would sound and seriously think they are good.  Then of course, when the judges cannot contain their laughter, Simon gives his all knowing “you had got to be kidding” face, and the judges ultimately say, umm no, sorry.  The person is crushed, surprised and begs to sing just “one more song”.  Sometimes, they even just start singing again anyway.  It is great, good comedic relief for a busy schedule :-)

So ya, you are probably wondering.  How do David and American Idol go together?  Well right now, I am reading through the Psalms.  The Psalms are kind of like the Davids songs he sings to the Lord.   If I remember correclty, I THINK Psalm means song, in a way at least.  Anyway, I read Psalm 89 yesterday and wow was it awesome (READ IT HERE).  I love the Psalms because each of them are slightly differant.  It really shows the humanity of David and that he was just a regular guy who we can relate too.  There are psalms of praise, but there are also psalms with David crying out to God asking him to hear him and answer his cry, or seeking forgiveness for a mistake he made.  Don’t we do that as well?  So, it got me thinking.  I wonder what David would sing if HE tried out for American Idol?  Would he make it past Simon, Paula, and Randy?  I wonder if David would be a “Clay Aiken” and sing a sweet song about God’s love, or if he would be a “Kelly Clarkson” or “Bo Bice” and sing a rock out song about the pain and torment of his soul.  Random I know, but it is a funny thought isn’t it?  (Hopefully, he wouldn’t be a “William Hung, haha) Ok, what about if God was the judge on American Idol?  What would you sing to him?  Would you sing a song of praise to him or a song about your needs and wants?  I know a lot of the time we focus on what we think we don’t have rather that what we do.  However, we are abundantly blessed.  We are blessed to be given the opportunity to become a child of God.  So, think about it, if you had one chance to sing a song to God, what would it be?
