Well folks, it is officially 2008. Wow, I cannot believe that another year has already come and gone, can you? Well, I, for one, am REALLY excited and pumped about 2008! God has a lot of things in store for Andrew and myself this year, and we are both really excited to see how God works it out!!! We did not do any resolutions. In fact, we never do any resolutions really. They are goals that should apply consistantly to our lives wherever we are, things we are always striving for and improving, not just things thrown out there for the start of a new year that everyone ends up breaking anyway! (see my hubby’s blog!). I must say, I agree with my husband 100% on his goals. I think it is AWESOME we share goals like those. It makes a marriage work wonderfully. If we each had differant goals for things we are being called to do together in life, I think we would be asking for a mighty big train wreck! Of course, spiritual goals can vary some, but our ultimate goal should always be to seek God and follow hard after him. I have no doubt that my husband desires that as much as I do. Hey, if we didn’t, I don’t think we would be as crazy as we are to do some of the things we are about to do! So, good ol’ new years resolutions. Personally I think they are kind of cheesy, silly, dumb, pointless if you ask me. The Bible gives us a “news years resolution” that we can always apply to our life, no matter what the time of year. It is found in Matthew 6, key verse being verse 33. Read it here. See? The main thing we need to focus on is the Lord. When we do that, He will direct our path, He will provide what we need. He already knows all things we need, all things we are called to do. He was the one who set it up in and for our lives! So, as this new year rings in, I challenge you not to sit and think about a lot of “what if” type resolutions, worrying about what you will do this year, what you won’t do this year, what you will get this year, what you will get OUT of this year. . .trust God! Follow hard after him. Seek first HIS kingdom! With God, we should be asking not “what if” but “why not!” The truth is, when we set our eyes upon Christ and are focused soley on Him, God can tell us better than anyone what our “resolutions” should be. God knows what we need better than we do! Now, I am not saying to just sit back, watch television, eat potato chips and pizza and wait for God to reign down like a bolt of lightning. We do need to move forward and be active, but we need to be active in ways that honor God that are in alignment with His will, not our own. At a church we visited this Sunday in Texas, the speaker said if you have resolutions, ask yourself “why” for every single thing you wrote down. After that why, ask another why, and another, and another, until you have figured out the reason you REALLY wrote that down in the first place. Chances are it isn’t only what is written down, there is a deeper meaning and a hidden reason.
So folks, with all that said, my main focus this year is going to be God! Now, I am human, I will mess up. I will lose focus, and begin worrying again about all the what if’s. But I will work hard at pursuing Christ, so that when I am off path, I can get back on with His help. This coming year is going to be full of craziness, confusion, excitement, among other things. I cannot afford to lose focus. So, I am going to do my best to remember the verses I shared earlier with you. I also think these will be some life verses for me in this upcomping year. HERE and HERE. So, folks, what are your “resolutions”? I challenge you to make sure those so-called resolutions are not what if focused, but God focused. I challenge you today to focus on the Lord this year, and trust HIM to direct you! Trust me, He knows where you need to be!
God Bless!
