I’ll be home for Christmas. . .

Yes, this year, I will be at my home in Texas.  I am looking foward to it.  My mother has been in a great mood and I am still really excited for her she is getting to sing at the White House!  Yes, the white house in DC!  Way cool!  She has called me a couple of times already, elated, telling me all the cool things she was doing.  One things she really was excited about doing was going to see the World War 2 Memorial museum.  Her daddy, my granddaddy, was in the US NAVY and fought in WWII, so it is very special to her.  My granddaddy was an wonderful man, the sweetest man I think I have ever known.  He died when I was only about 9 years old, but I remember him very well.  My granny actually gave me the anchor charm he had from the navy.  So, that is very special to me.  I love remembering loved ones around Christmas.  It is nice to have wonderful memories and celebrate them with family.  I have other things I enjoy about Christmas too.  When I was little, we used to read the Christmas story from the Bible together.  I even had all of Luke 2 memorized at one point in my life.  I do not think I could recite the whole thing now. . .although I should be able to.  However, probably one of my favorite verses in the Bible surrounding the Christmas story is what many of us know as “Mary’s prayer.”  It can be found here

I think it is pretty amazing that a young woman, not yet married, took on this role to carry Christ.  It is even more amazing that God sent His only son.  Many of my friends who are young or newly married cannot even picture having children so “young” but what they don’t realize is Mary was young, folks, and I mean, young.  Probably around 14.  Wow, now that is faith that I think we need to exhibit.   Now, Mary was freaked out at first people, I won’t say she wasn’t.  For those of you who read the Christmas story links in my previous blog saw that, however, she responded with a clear, consise answer that proves how genuine her faith really was.  She told the angel of the Lord “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord, let it be to me according to your word.”  She bascially was saying although she didn’t understand what was about to happen to her or why, she trusted the Lord.  She knew that her life was really the Lord’s to begin with and that she was here on this earth to serve the Lord, therefore she wanted to do whatever it was He asked of her.  We need to remember that in our lives.  These lives on earth are temporary and short lived.  We need to live our lives as servants of our mighty King, not going after worthless things.  It is fine to have things we enjoy and things we like, we just need to keep everything in proper perspective.  Christmas is not about what we get from others, but about what was given to us from God.  God sacrificed his only son.  Jesus was born to be a servant for others.  Since Christmas is when the greatest servant of man was born, then we need to view Christmas the same way.  So this next week over Christmas, be a servant to those around you and to those you love.  You will be surprised that when you serve others, it is a great blessing and perhaps the greatest gift you can give not only to others, but to yourself.

I hope everyone has a truly Merry Christmas!
